Don convinced me (it wasn't hard) that we needed two of these swords, which were on sale at El Mundo Discount on Steinway. We've already had a couple duels -- one of which, out on the sidewalk in front of our apartment building, received a round of applause from a group of people watching from their window across the street. NERF also makes shields, but they weren't at El Mundo - I'm pretty sure we'll end up getting those as well.
I also came across a jewelry shop in Williamsburg called Brooklyn Charm. I don't wear jewelry because anything in my price range is hideous, but lo and behold the make-it-yourself charm shop in Brooklyn, where an 18" copper chain won't set you back more than $10, and you can buy a real Sternocera aequisignata shell charm for $6. Lastly, I attended what was probably the most entertaining concert of my life on Thursday: Dan Deacon at Pier 84, opened by Roomrunner (meh) and John Maus (of Panda Bear). It was a FREE concert, and Megan came with me, and it was insane.
